  2. do you think sohrab has love for amir?

    1. I think that even though Amir is technically an uncle to Sohrab, it is still hard for Sohrab to open up to Amir because of how long he was absent in Sohrab's life.

      Delete
    2. I think Sohrab could grow to love Amir but as of right now he isn't that close with him.

      Delete
    3. I think Sohrab is Amir's redemption for everything he had done to Hassan. I think he will love him in his own way but he will still look at him and remember Hassan, I also think that he will be able to love him as a son. But not the way he was "loved" in his childhood.

      Delete
    4. I think Sorab doesn't love Amir at first when he comes to rescue him, but trusts Amir instead. He couldn't have been mad at or afraid of Amir because he shot Assef in the eye and has been following Amir in every situation that he has been in so far. I think eventually Sohrab will eventually love Amir as an uncle and even a father.

  3. How do you think Amir felt when he realized it was Assef working for the Taliban?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think Amir was not surprised considering the kind of person Assef was as a kid.

      Delete
    2. I think Amir felt like it was destined to be and that it was his destiny to finally own up to Assef because he ran away when he was raping Hassan

      Delete
    3. i think that had to be a very hard moment for amir because of what he experienced with assef as a child i think he was very devistated to see it was him.

      Delete
    4. I think he felt scared, not only because his biggest enemy had the power to kill him right there, but also because he might realize that a lot of people he grew up with could have also went this path.

      Delete
    5. I don't think he was surprised at the least, considering how cruel Assef was and still is.

      Delete
    6. I think Amir probably knew deep down that Assef was part of the Taliban. As a kid Assef loved Hitler and thought his idea of killing all who were not up to "god's standards" was a good idea. Honestly I wasn't that surprised when Assef was the Taliban leader and Amir probably wasn't either.

      Delete
    7. I think it might have given Amir some flashbacks if what had happened when they were younger. I also believe the roles have not changed, Assef is still this strong powerful figure that people are scared of and Amir is just a regular person.

      Delete
    8. He was obviously a little taken off guard because on page 281 the book says that "I felt the color drain from my face. my legs went cold. Numb." and a little farther down the page states "I tried to take a breath and couldn't. I tried to blink and couldn't ... My face was burning". These examples show that he was very nervous and scared which reflects in his body language as well as in his speech.

      Delete
    9. I feel like he would not be suprised. i feel like it is foreshadowed that assef is drawn to power so it makes sense that assef would join the group with the most power

      Delete
  4. Looking back to when Hassan said "One-eyed Assef" earlier in the book it was obviously foreshadowing. Do you think there is any other foreshadowing that we overlooked?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm sure that there was more foreshadowing in the book than we realized. There was probably foreshadowing that hinted that Amir would end up taking Sohrab home when Amir talked to Rahim Khan.

      Delete
  5. Do you think Amir is doing all of this because he is just guilty, or because he truly wants to change as a person?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think its a little of both, because he feels like he has to make it right to Hassan and Baba who wanted him to change for so long but he just didn't

      Delete
    2. I think that he still feels guilty, but I think that because of his guilt he wants to change as person.

      Delete
    3. I feel like he wouldn't have done this if he did stop the rape as a kid, so I think he is doing it because he is guilty but I definitely think he will change from this experience.

      Delete
    4. I feel like they go hand in hand. Hassan feels guilty, so he wants to change and become good to get rid of that guilty feeling.

      Delete
    5. i think both could be true because he is very guilty of all the things that he did as a child but also everybody on the planet should want a chance at being the best person they can so i do think that is the main thing driving amir.

      Delete
    6. I think that part of Amir went back to right some wrongs from the past. at the same time I think he thinks if he tries to make a difference or change something there then he will be "forgiven" for what he did. He also might have gone back because it could have felt to him like he had left so quick he needed to see it from a diffrent perspective.

      Delete
    7. I think it is a little of both. Amir is getting his motivation from his past and he wants to save Sohrab for Hassan but he also wants to become a better person and relieve some of the guilt that is still left inside of him.

      Delete
    8. I think Amir is really doing this because he actually wants to change as a person. I also think some of the characteristic from Baba is being shown now in Amir and how he grew up now hes taking responsibility and is courageous.

      Delete
    9. I think Amir will always be guilty even though he is trying to help Hassan in any way he can. I think that when rescuing Sohrab Amir was trying to be a good person because what happened to Hassan in his past shaped his character and actions.

      Delete
  6. The call to adventure in Amirs journey is important because he's finally really becoming stronger and standing up for himself Farid and Sohrab, on page 285 when Assef is talking about ethnic cleansing, Amir holds his ground and says strong by keeping his focus on getting Sohrab out of that brutal environment.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree with that, I also think that he is much more determined and passionate now than he was as a kid. He stayed focused on his goals instead of letting himself be intimidated by Assef. He wouldn't have done this when he first lived in Afghanistan and that's another way he's grown through his call to adventure.

    1. It connects to Hassan because Hassan himself had been born with a harelip.

    1. I agree it shows Amir and Hassan's brotherhood even after Hassan died by the tree still standing after all the wars Afghanistan has gone through

  9. On page 259 it says, "I saw a dead body near the restaurant. There had been a hanging...Hardly anyone seemed to notice". What does this say about the condition of Kabul and how the presence of the Taliban is affecting it?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It shows that people have been dealing with this violence for so long that they've been forced to ajust to it.

      Delete
    2. it’s saying how much violence is happening and how much the people of khabul are being effected because of the terrible conditions the are under.

      Delete
    3. This shows how much of an affect the Taliban had on Kabul and shows what they all have gone through. Kabul is in a bad condition and they feel like redemption is hopeless. On page 244, Farid said, "Kabul is not the way you remember it", and Amir is still finding ways that it has changed and he is continuously shocked by how much his old home has been affected by these tragedies.

      Delete
    4. people in Kabul are obviously terrified of the Taliban and they seemed to scared to fight against them and the Taliban seem to be able to do anything there and getting away with it.
      -nikolay

      Delete
    5. I think that goes to show that the Taliban does so much horrible executions that it becomes more and more common so it had a lesser effect on people who see it.

      Delete
    6. Kabul has changed throughout the years since Amir moved and now hes seeing the horrible things and to him its pretty new but to others who have lived in Kabul this whole time its probably normal to see something like that because its just what happens now.

  10. In the letter Rahim Khan wrote to Amir he says " I knew. Hassan told me shortly after it happened."(Pg 301) Why do you think Hassan told Rahim Khan what happened to him before telling his father. Why do you think Rahim Khan didn't tell amir that he knew what happened to Hassan?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think that Rahim Khan didn't tell Amir he knew because I feel like part of him wanted to see Amir be a good person and own up to what he witnessed and didn't stop in the ally.

      Delete
  11. why do you think on page 287 Amir said "I think I gave him a good fight"

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think Amir said that because instead of running like he did last time, he finally took the beating he should have gotten awhile ago

      Delete
    2. I think Amir knows that he didn't do a ton of harm to Assef but he wanted to especially given that Assef had been a big bully and had learned to fight young where as Amir had let Hassan fight for him before which forces Amir to fight for himself and what he believes.

  12. "Blood is a powerful thing" Pg 130
Do you think the fact that Sohrab and Amir are related by blood it will contribute to what Amir is going to do with Sohrab?

    1. Yes, I think the fact that they are related brings them closer and helps Amir to be good again by saving him.

    2. This comment has been removed by the author.

    3. I think that the fact that they are related by blood will affect Amir's choices. I think Amir would have gone to get Sohrab even if he didn't know he was his nephew, and he probably would have given him to that American family so Sorab was taken care of. Now, I think Amir might keep Sohrab and take him to America because he and Soraya want children and this is as close as they can get to it.

  13. When Amir was getting hit by Assef, he laughed and felt really good. Hassan had been abused in 1975, and Amir was finally getting his turn.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. On page 283, Hosseini said, "...and he kicked me even harder and I started laughing." This quote is talking about how Assef was laughing during his imprisonment, that foreshadowed how Amir is laughing. He felt good because he is getting rid of his guilt.

  14. What do you think Sohrab was thinking after seeing Assef attack Amir? Is it similar to how Hassan used to stand up for Amir?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think it is similar to when Amir was a child because Hassan told Amir that he would do literally anything for Amir, and in a way Sohrab is carrying on his fathers legacy by standing up for Hassan.

      Delete
  15. On page 305, Hosseini says, “For you a thousand times over,’ Farid said.” It is used many times throughout the book. What do you think this line symbolizes? More specifically, what does this line symbolize between Amir and Hassan?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think this line is a saying of respect meaning like I would do it for you as many times as you want and with perfection

      Delete
    2. I think that the line "For you a thousand times over" shows that some people are willing to do a lot for you and I think Hassan does that for Amir but Amir didn't have that in him at the time and now that hes an adult he is starting to also have that in him.

      Delete
    3. I agree with you AJ, it definetly represents how Hassan always worked to please Amir.

      Delete
    4. I agree with your view as well Grant, Amir definitely will realize how much Hassan put in to please Amir.

      Delete
    5. I think is symbolizes how Amir is drawn to people who are very loyal and courageous. Most people in his life would do almost anything for him and this book is about Amir learning to return the favor. The line, "for you, a thousand times over", symbolizes how all of these people help to cause a change in Amir so he will eventually be able to say the same.

  16. On page 281, the narrator say "He brushed his lips against Sohrab's ear, kept an eye on me". Do you think Assef did this on purpose to make Amir feel uncomfortable because Assef raped Sohrab's father, Hassan, as a younger kid?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I believe so and it was to show Amir that if he didn't man up he could rape the little child too which would absolutely devastated Amir

      Delete
    2. Considering that Assef knew that Sohrab was Hassan's kid, I think he did do that to make Amir uncomfortable.

      Delete
  17. do we think that sohrab has a hatred for amir? because hassan his father and he's gone?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't think so I think Hassan always talked about Amir greatly because of how close Hassan was with Amir

      Delete
    2. I don't think Sohrab can hate Amir. Sohrab has shown us many times about how he is similar to Hassan and how he is just as forgiving. If Hassan never hated Amir in his lifetime, I feel like it'll be the same for Sohrab. Especially after Amir went to such great lengths to rescue him from the Taliban.

      Delete
  18. Do you think that this was Amir's way to be good again? By fighting Assef he kinda made up for being wimpy before.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes I feel like Assef beating up Amir helped Amir feel like he was finally getting the beating that he was supposed to get when he was a kid but instead Hassan got beat up then.

      Delete
    2. I think in Amir's mind he had redeemed himself for what happened in the old days so he feels satisfied. But in reality it didn't change anything in the past except for Amir's ego moving forward

      Delete
    3. Yes I believe Amir used it to let go of some of his guilt and have redemption for his past.

      Delete
    4. I think that in his head this righted the wrong and made it up to Hassan in a way and showed that he also thinks "for you a thousand times over"

      Delete
    5. yes i do think amir can be good again because he is facing his fears and guilt and making up for a lot of the bad things he has done in the past.

      Delete
    6. I definitely think that this is his way to become good again because there's not much left in the book and he still has a little bit left in the hero's journey.

  19. do you guys think that amir is taking sohrab for himself of for hassan?

    1. For Hassan, but I think in a way he knows that this is going to be a really good thing that took and saved Sohrab.

      Delete
    2. He is doing it for Hassan but he will also take pride in what he did and treat Sohrab as his own.

      Delete
    3. I think hes mostly taking him for Hassan because that's what Hassan probably wanted him to do and he would do the same for Amirs kid if he was in that situation as well.

  20. The pomegranate tree reference, page 264, shows the stance of modern day Afghanistan. When he came back to Afghanistan, he sees a war torn country, but the tree shows that the country is still the same at its roots. I think that the current state of Afghanistan also represents Amir's mental health. His mind has been torn apart by regret due to his lack of action when it came to Hassan's rape, but there is still a way to be good again. This is the same as the Pomegranate tree symbolizes within modern day Afghanistan, there is good at the roots.

    1. I totally agree with what you have said and i also believe that the pomegranate tree also brings back more memories for Amir.

  21. How did Rahim Khan know about what happened with Hassan and Amir's lack of action?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I think Hassan told him and that is why Rahim Khan and Hassan had to leave as their servants because it would've been akward

  22. How do you think what Sohrab went through: watching his parents get murdered and getting sexually abused by the Taliban, will effect Sohrab's choices that are coming up?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think Soraya is going to be very shocked, maybe even angry, but in the end she will be happy and find love for Sohrab as her own son that she couldn't have.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Do you think (If they go back to America) Sohrab will be happy there?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. i do think sohrab will be a lot happier because he will finally be able to escape the terror of khabul and be able to live a good life

      Delete
    2. I don't think things could get much worse for Sohrab, so I think if he just has a roof over his head and a loving family, he will be happy.

      Delete
    3. I think Sohrab will be as happy as he can be in America. He will definitely still have difficulties because he's been through so much but I think that once he adjusts to his new life he will be happy.

      Delete
    4. I think Sohrab will be happy because before Amir saved him from the Taliban, he had a horrible life. He was being tortured and couldn't escape it. But in America, Sohrab will live a good life with Amir and Soraya and he will be glad he is with someone who knew his father so Amir will be able to help Sohrab carry on Hassan's legacy.

      Delete
    5. I think he would be happier there because its safer and there will always be food on the table and he will have parental figures.

  25. i think that amirs wife will be happy with sohrab because she cant have kids.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah I agree I think how the author really showed what a toll it had on their marriage that they couldn't have kids was foreshadowing that they were going take Sohrab to America and keep him as their kid.

      Delete
    2. Yeah I agree I think thats why Amir went through such troubles to bring back Sohrab

      Delete
    3. I agree, I think it works out well because then he is safe and will have food and they get a family in America.

      Delete
    4. I feel like it will cause some unrest for amirs wife. she could think that amir does not love her anymore

      Delete
  26. How will Soraya react to Sohrab coming home? Will she be happy since she wasn't able to have kids? Does she know that Amir went to Afghanistan to find Sohrab, or just that Amir was saying goodbye to Rahim Khan?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think Soraya might be a little angry considering she had no clue where Amir was and Amir never told her this secret he was keeping to himself. I also think that she will open up and accept Sohrab as her own.

    2. I think Soraya will be happy because she will finally have a little kid to take care of

  27. Do you think that Amir and Sohrab grow close? Or will they have near the same relationship as Baba and Amir where they didn't really know each other all that well?

    ReplyDelete

    1. i honestly think they will grow very close because i don’t think that amir wants to take any traits off of baba and wants to be able to connect with sohrab.

    2. I feel like Amir will be very close with Sohrab especially because he isn't his kid but his brothers kid which will make him want to take care of him even more

  28. What do you think happened to Assef's parents? At Amir's birthday party (the only time we read about them in the book) they seemed scared of Assef and they seemed like they let their son control their lives.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I think that they are probably dead or not in good shape. Maybe Assef is responsible for what may have happened to his parents.

      Delete
    2. I don't really know what happened to Assef's parents, but I don't think that anything bad happened to them.

      Delete
    3. I think when Assef joined the Taliban they probably lost contact with him. There is a very good chance they fled to Pakistan or are possibly dead as well.

  29. Do you think Rahim Khan had to push what Amir did out of Hassan because he knew Hassan was upset , or do you think Hassan told Rahim willingly?

    1. I think Hassan willingly told Rahim Khan

      Delete
