    1. This is a very interesting point because I agree the people in F451 are very attached to their shows such as Mildred because uin the beginning she calls the people on the TV show her family (Pg 43 of graphic novel)

    2. This point is very true people are attached to their technology more than anything else, almost as if it is an addiction.

  2. An aspect of F451 that will probably stick with me is that books were illegal and burned alot.

  3. I think I will take away what negative impacts technology has on myself

  4. The concept of fire they use in this book and the distant future that we could be headed into.

  5. The fact that if you try to be different in society you will be looked down upon and be treated differently.

    1. How do you think the author wanted people to take this theme from the book?

  6. I will remember how the woman burned herself with her books and how she wouldn't want to live in a world without them. This book made me appreciate literature more because it teaches you very good life lessons.

    1. I think this also stands for a bigger idea of the woman dying for what she loves and holding her ground for what she believes in. She wasn't phased by the firemen threatening her life as they were torching her house.

  7. One aspect that will stick with me from 451 is the possibility that a dystopian society like theirs could happen one day in our world.

  8. I think that the aspect of fighting for what you truly believe in worth it in the end is my big takeaway.

  9. The idea that technology can be brainwashing. Technology isn't always bad, but it can be if we let it be.

    1. I think there are many sides to technology. one could be that there is now a way of connecting many people together who arn't living close to eachother. But on the other hand technology tears away from the beauty of the outside world.

  10. One part of Fahrenheit 451 that really intrigued me was how much hatred the society had against books. Some books I find very interesting and some very boring but burning books is a little bit crazy.

    1. I would agree with you. I think it is important for everyone to have their own opinion. That is one of our greatest freedoms. In F451 everyone's opinion is skewed by the government. Everyone hates books because that is what has been drilled into their minds. If people got the chance to actually think for themselves, I think they would come to really appreciate books.

  11. The only thing that stayed with me from the novel is that if you don't look at things from a different perspective you will get trapped and become depressed

  12. I will remember the negative aspects of technology.

  13. The way the fear of knowledge and awareness is portrayed in F451 will stay with me. The fact that people went to the lengths they did to stop people from learning is a scary warning to what society can become.

    1. i agree with this, society is so different when everybody is drowned out from the truth and reality, it is hard to feel anything in a world like that.

  14. There are multiple aspects that will stay with me. I will remember how important history is. I will remember that a government with too much power can say that you have freedom, but in reality they can strip everything from you.

  15. I think the thing that will stick with me most is that in this society where technology is dominant suicide is a common thing.

    ReplyDelete
  16. An aspect that's gonna stick with me is firemen burning things not putting fires out.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I will remember to not go along with what the world thinks is true when it is wrong and fight for what you believe in.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Fahrenheit 451 as a whole was a reflective way of showing how our society is addicted to technology, and how I personally take books for granted.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The aspects of Fahrenheit 451 that will stick with me is the fact that Montag will always have his own opinion and doesn't let anyone change in what he believes in. I feel that even in today's society that many people conform rather than be themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I will remember how the old woman burned herself with her books. She sticks up for what she believes even though she paid a price.

  21. F451 is a clear example of what a "utopia" would reflect. There are always flaws, people that are going to be unhappy, and violence. However, if people are willing to take action and challenge a flawed system, change will follow. The process is slow, sometimes unreliable, and one might feel isolated. However, strength perseverance, and determination are a cause for celebration.

  22. I feel like this concept of books being illegal and burned could be compared some modern day things. Obviously different in ways but still very very similar.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I will remember to believe what I want and won't be subjected to conformity

  24. How does the relief and pressure affect Montag after the death of Beatty and the destruction of the mechanical hound?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I feel like a weight is lifted off Montags chest when he kills beatty and destroys the mechanical hound because then he doesn't have to worry about things coming back around and getting him.

      Delete
    2. I think Montag will feel free because Beatty gave him lots of stress but at the same time Montag now has the death of a person on his hands which will give him some guilt to live with.

      Delete
    3. he will free because he is not getting bossed around but will feel weighed down because he killed someone

      Delete
    4. I believe Montag will feel a bit more free and him losing Beatty is his independence finally coming out.

    5. A lot is taken off of montag, the stress and the weight, he feels more free.

  25. the thing that wills stay with me is things like books being illegal is a future we could have because everything will offend somebody in some way.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree with this a lot of people in this day and age will find a way to get offended at anything. I don't believe it will ever reach the point of books being banned though because if it will offend you, don't read it.

  26. On page 156 it says," Granger looked into the fire "Phoenix" how does this symbolize the legend of Phoenix.

    Replies
    1. Phoenix's rebirth so I think that Granger is thinking about the rebirth of something, probably knowledged.

      Delete
    2. Phoenixes rise from ashes. I think this symbolizes the legend because at the end of the book their society is in ashes so the survivors and all the professors hiding out in the woods have to rise from their literal and figurative ashes.

      Delete
    3. it symbolizes hope and the legend of the phoenix shows that there is power.

  27. "Chicago. A long time ago. Millie and I. That's where we met!" Pg.153
Why do you think Bradbury included these sentences in the book? Why did he feel the need to include this when at the start of the book Mildred and Montag couldn't remember how they met.

    ReplyDelete
  28. is the mechanical hound in the book because people fear technology of a future of common things being illegal?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think Bradbury put the dog in so people can see what technology is eventually going o turn into.

      Delete
    2. Yes kind of i think he just put the mechanical hound in the book just to keep people in check.

      Delete
    3. Ya I believe that the hound is a representation of our fear of technology.
      -Nikolay

    4. I agree with Sophia. I think that the fact that the hound is mechanical is important. I think it's kind of like a warning to show us that technology can be destructive.

  29. Granger had said "There was a silly damn bird called a Phoenix back before Christ, every hundred years he built a pyre and burned himself up. He must have been first cousin to Man. But everytime he burnt himself up he sprang out of the ashes he got himself born all over again." We have discussed the "rebirth" of Montag but how does this quote solidify how others like Granger also felt?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think Granger and others are tired of the circular, self-destructive trajectory of the phoenix. I liked Granger's quote about building a metaphorical "mirror factory" to take time to reflect on mistakes (perhaps by reading and memorizing books) to avoid repeating them.

      Delete
    2. Granger is stating how the phoenix continues to be reborn, but gets nowhere in life because he loses everything after he catches fire. Granger is noticing a similar pattern in his own society. They keep seeing everything get lost in flames, however nothing changes as the society is reborn. The goal of their mission is to not be reborn without any of the knowledge they previously gained but to carry it through every obstacle.

  30. I feel like after reading F451 I almost feel like I understand the importance of books. Because think about it like back then they didnt have tech they had books. How we look for comfort or whatever with technology they had with books.

    1. I agree I feel like after reading this it has made me appreciate books more and it reminds me how much books do for us.

    2. I also agree with this it shows that we don't realise how important things are when we still have them then when there taken away from use we realise how important it really was.

  31. How far away from Bradbury's society are we if we keep going down the same path with technology and censorship?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think as of right now we are still pretty far but I wouldn't be surprised if eventually we come to that point

      Delete
    2. I think that kind of society is in our near future considering kids are already reading shortened versions of books on sparknotes. I feel like it will only get worse from here.

      Delete
    3. I feel like some countries are closer to that reality than we are like with Korea they have censorships on the internet already.

      Delete
    4. I personally think that a society full of technology could definitely be a possibility in the future, but it might not be a bad thing. Books as well as expression were taken out of life in this book. That might not be a result of technology but a result of wars and national/international conflicts. Maybe taking away expression was a part time solution that failed. I don't think something like that could happen to our society in the future.

  32. On page 153, Montag recalls the place he met Mildred, "Montag clung to the earth. I remember. Chicago. Chicago a long time ago. Millie and I. That's where we met!" Why do you think the memory finally comes back to him as Mildred dies and the world he knew comes crashing down?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The first memory of Mildred is his favorite memory of Mildred so when he realizes his city is gone he is filled with sadness and remembers his great times with Mildred.

  33. Did Montag every truly love his wife? Page 148 says "It's strange, I don't miss her, it's strange I don't feel much of anything," This shows that now he has zero care for her but did he every love her?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I do not think Montag cared about Mildred very much. They were never very fond of each other from the beginning. She also sent in the notice about Montag having books in his house.

      Delete
    2. I think he might have loved her at first, but as she became more connected to her tv family, their love grew apart.

      Delete
    3. Honestly, I don't belief Montag ever felt an affectionate connection between himself and his wife. He was always just going through the motions and felt obligated to "love' his wife. However, at Montag's lowest moments he felt alone and isolated almost as everyone was working against him. He claims he didn't feel any emotion, when in reality that emotion was directed for a future change he wanted to see.

      Delete
    4. I think he loved her to the point where you can love someone without thinking any different. But eventually he realised that he needs to understand more about everything and she was just holding him back

      Delete
    5. I don't think he ever really knew what love was until his mind started to understand things a little more and grab a hold of bigger concepts.

      Delete
    6. I don't think he actually loved her but he thought he did. I agree with Pria's statement about him going through the motions. At the start of the book Montag was a firefighter and thought "It was a pleasure to burn" Pg. 1. However throughout the book his eyes are kind of opened and he doesn't enjoy burning the books, he stopped going through the motions. I think the same things going on here, his eyes have been opened and he's realizing he doesn't really love Mildred.

      Delete
    7. I don't think Montag loved Mildred I just think he felt that he needed to love her so he could be a part of society. In the book on page 56 he find Mildred half dead in his room and instead of calling the police right away he just sits and stares at her.

  34. i feel like towards the end of the book montag is a terrorist in the eyes of the government but a savior in the eyes of faber

    1. True but other people probably believe he's a bad guy because of the government.

  35. Why do you think the news fakes the death of Montag? (It's so interesting that this book was written waaaaaaay before the term "fake news" was coined)...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think they faked the news so they don't cause the people to panic and believe Montag is a "killer".

      Delete

    2. probably because montag was maybe starting to make other people question what is actually happening with all these books and if they are even bad. So they needed to prove their power and convince people that montag is killed so people don't think about their curiosity anymore.

      Delete
    3. Yellow journalism can be seen as a common aspect of reality in today's society. People have always looked for a dramatic way to represent information. They want to drum up what's not there to gain attention. The media needed an outlet for people to agree with them and conform with society. If people thought Montag was truly dead, they could settle down and change wasn't needed. I guess the true question is why does anyone create fake news? There looking for something they desire.

      Delete
    4. I believe they fake it to put the society at rest. On page 139 it says,"Montag is dead a crime against society has been avenged". Now that society thinks he is dead they can go back to their dystopian lifestyle.

      Delete
    5. I think the news faked Montag's death to prove to the citizens that rebellion and standing up for your beliefs will never work out and change will never come. Many people may try to challenge the government if they see successful attempts and the news will do whatever possible to extinguish that hope.

      Delete
    6. I think the government faked Montag's death because they wanted to show him that they would eventually find him while still calming the people of their town. Montag was very disturbed when he found out that he was presumed dead. This also led me to wonder if Clarisse is actually dead, or if the government faked her death as well.

      Delete
    7. I think that they did this because they wanted people to stop worrying about him and calm down because they were threatened by Montag and if they thought he was dead then all of the worry would leave their minds.

  37. I think the part of F451 that is going to stick with me the most is how in the beginning how meeting Clarisse completely changes Montags mindset and it goes from closed to beginning to open.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Why did Bradbury choose one small action (Clarisse) to be the tipping point for Montag to create change?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think Bradbury wanted to show that being yourself, despite what society wants you to be, has an effect on the people around you. All your actions and thoughts mean something to someone, and Clarisse is all Montag needed for him to embrace his curiosity.

      Delete
  39. Bradbury leaves so much unexplained time and place wise because a dystopia like this could happen anytime anywhere in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  40. To show how one small thing in life can change it forever.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Throughout the book, Montag has learned to become a more open minded person. However, he has never been able to make peace with fire. On page 139, Montag says, "...it meant something different to him. It was not burning, it was warming." This scene shows one of Montag's final realization of the book and shows that even your greatest fears and obstacles have 2 sides.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Bradbury has predicted many of today's realities in F451. In his everyday life, what could've provoked those predictions? If you were to make a prediction, what will our world look like in 100 years?
