Book Clubs, Day 5: December 6, 2018

Focus: How do we make nouns possessive, and how is the hero's journey playing out in the second half of our book club books?

1. Warming up with a possessive noun interview

Step 1: Ask your partner the following questions, and write down his/her responses:
  • How many brothers and sisters do you have?
  • Do they have their own rooms?
  • Do you have your own room? What kinds of things are in your room?
  • How many pets do you have? What kind? Where do they sleep? What kinds of toys do they have?
  • What does your kitchen look like?
  • How many bathrooms does your house have?
  • Where do the different people in your house tend to hang out?
  • What objects do you associate with the different people in your house?
  • What's your favorite space in your house, and why?
Step 2: Make at least FIVE POSSESSIVE phrases or clauses based on what you wrote down. YOU CANNOT USE THE SAME POSSESSIVE NOUN MORE THAN ONCE. Try to use both singular and plural nouns.

Example:
  • Molly's house has two bathrooms.
  • Her brothers' rooms are always messy.
  • The dog's and cat's dishes are in the kitchen.
  • The cat leaves its toy mouse on the stairs.
  • Her stepsister's homework is all over the dining room table.
2. Enjoying our Hero's Journey Book Clubs, Day 5

3. Wrapping up with an exit ticket

HW:

2. For FRIDAY, DEC 14: All make-up / revised course work due, INCLUDING YOUR INDEPENDENT READING BOOK REVIEWS. No work for English 10 will be accepted after this date.
